ROUTE MAP FROM GUWAHATI TO TAWANG

Want to hit the road? Well, this road trip from Guwahati to Tawang is the one for you. It is one of the scenic road trips across India. Guwahati is the largest city in the state of Assam situated between the banks of Brahmaputra river and Shillong Plateau. Tawang on the other side is one of the most enticing destinations with beautiful white foaming waterfalls, serene landscapes, high mountains, freshwater lakes, and many more. From Guwahati, it takes at least five days to reach Tawang but the whole trip is full of enthusiasm and surprises.

GUWAHATI TO TEZPUR (DAY 1)

Tezpur is around 185 kilometers away from Guwahati. So to reach Tezpur you need to start the journey early in the morning from Guwahati. It takes at least 3-4 hours to reach Tawang. The city has many attractions like Bhairabi Temple, Agnigarh, Cole Park, Bamuni Hills, etc. It is better if you spend a night in Tezpur so that you can continue with the journey with more energy.

TEZPUR TO BHALUKPONG (DAY 2)

Bhalukpong is 60 kilometers away from Tezpur so it will approximately take 2 hours to reach. This is where you will enter Arunachal Pradesh and while you enter, you will be asked for ILP (INNER LINE PERMIT). So make sure you carry your ILP while traveling. The surrounding while entering Bhalukpong is just mindblowing.

BHALUKPONG TO BOMDILA (DAY 3)

All the scenic place starts from Bomdila. From Bhalukpong, Bomdila is 97 kilometers away so it can be easily covered. Once you reach Bomdila don’t miss visiting Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary. You should halt for a day on Bomdila and the next day leave for Dirang.

BOMDILA TO DIRANG (DAY 4)

Start the journey early in the morning on your way to the dirang valley. As you go upwards it naturally starts getting colder and the roads become narrow but the greenery and waterfalls in the surrounding will just make you forget about all the bumpy roads and cold climate. You will just keep on looking at the scenery that comes on the way.

DIRANG TO TAWANG (DAY 5)

Tawang is 135 kilometers away from Dirang so it will take at least 5-6 hours or even more if you stop somewhere in the middle. We would recommend you to start early in the morning and cross Sela Pass by noon. When you enter Tawang, there is a grand gate saying “Welcome to Tawang”. Places like Nuranang Waterfalls, colorful Tawang Monastery, Gorichen Peak are some of the tourist places that people love visiting. You can spend a few days and explore all the beautiful places in Tawang.
